Just found this forum searching the fg 160. Saw an add for one in my local paper and bought it for $45! Was looking for a travel guitar for a trip to Mexico. Elderly woman who was a guitar teacher, bought it new in 1974. Really nice condition! Action is high though. Almost 3/16” at 12th fret, so I am doing my homework. The saddle is over an 1/8” high. Have not put straight edges on it yet. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and have lots of reading to do. Will replace the ancient strings tomorrow and give it a listen. Any suggestions appreciated! Cheers, Jerome in Idaho
WELCOME!!! I got an FG-160 from the original owner also. The action is probably about the same.
Let's say the action is 11/64" and you want 5/64". The difference is 6/64" or 3/32". To get the action down that far you need to take twice that off the saddle, which would be 3/16". That's not going to happen unless you can take 1/8" off the top of the bridge.
That guitar sounds to be firmly in Neck Reset territory. Unless you can find a way to hack it just to make it playable.
