I'm hoping someone can help me. I recently acquired a Yamaha FG 300, probably made in 1974 from the research I have been able to do. I'm getting the pickguard (original!) put back on and the guitar cleaned up and setup. One of the original tuners has been replaced (see picture, high E string). Does anyone know where I could get/purchase one? Thanks!
That's a tough one. 45 year old tuners are hard to find unless you buy a junk guitar for parts. There are other models that use that tuner, but it's rare to find tuners for sale.
I had found some component data from Yamaha but unfortunately, it was for only non-exported models, most of which we never see in the US. The FG-300 oddly wasn't included.
Since the FG-300 was a high end model at the time the only probably option is to find another high end model or another FG-300 as a donor guitar, both being rather expensive. Unless you get lucky and find someone selling one on eBay, your only choice would be to replace them all.
You would have to purchase all 6 but I'm putting them on ebay this morning search 6 vintage 1974 yamaha guitar tuners pegs excellent I want 135.00 for the set with free shipping in the continental us
