I purchased my FG-160e in the late 90s from a guitar shop in Melbourne, FL. It was my second guitar, and I traded in my entry level Fender acoustic, which I'd learned to play on, and maybe $75 to make up the difference. Needless to say, the difference was substantial. This guitar sounded like an orchestra compared to that cheap fender. It was in immaculate condition when I bought it, and I've taken great care to keep it that way. Everything looks straight, nothing bowing or cracking, really hardly any dings at all. I've never had any reason to get a different acoustic guitar, I love this guitar. It has a tan 'Made in Japan' label, and just the tuning forks logo on the headstock. As far a SNs go, it has a date code on the side of 48 4 13, so April 13, 1973, as well as a date code on the label of 30511, or May 11, 1973.
Thanks!! They are great guitars!! I have a FG-110E, the slightly smaller version.
As usual, the date code is when they made the sides and the 5 digit serial number is when they finished it. This is also the earliest FG-160E I have recorded and one of the earliest 5 digit serial numbers.
