The last thing to do is get the truss rod cover to sit flat. These aren't the original tuners, they were strip tuners. These have large washers under the nuts which have distorted the plastic headplate. The original tuners can't be reinstalled without ugly circular intents being visible.
You can see the truss rod cover sitting on top of the washers.
So I took some measurements, did a tracing of the truss rod cover, and sketched up a couple of proposals. The right version is definitely better.
I made a paper template to check the fit.
And I found the washers had partially been sanded, so I didn't need to take as much off the truss rod cover.
The edge of the truss rod cover is beveled at a 20 degree angle. How can I make a small adjustable angle platform?? Then I realize it doesn't need to be adjustable, just 20 degrees!! So I took a small piece of plywood, did a 20 degree layout on a larger piece, and estimated the screw length and location. And used my oscillating spindle sander to take a little off at a time and checked the fit.
