I’ve been wanting (3) models of pre-1971 Harmony guitars; Sovereign H1260 (jumbo, have 2), Sovereign H1203 (000?), and H162 (000?). These are models that some people convert from ladder to X bracing, saying they sound as good as 1930’s Martin’s.
I saw this one and immediately pulled the trigger. It’s very clean, the “tortoise” binding has fine cracks but is intact), missing the pickguard but there’s barely a shadow, and the frets have barely any wear. It just looks like a cool vintage guitar. Of course, it needs a neck reset. I’m itching to get to it!!
I’m working on (3) customer guitars: (1) has the neck back on after a neck reset, the other should be there in the next 2-3 days, and the third is going slowly fixing some finish damage. I had planned on working on the drop damage FG-512 and FG-336SB next, but this should be a quick neck reset. Should I just slip it in ahead of the other (2)??
Some detail about this guitar. It has the same neck & bridge dimensions as the H1260: 1.75” nut (1.47” string spacing), and a very nice 2.27” saddle string spacing. The nut & saddle have random extra grooves. ?? All (6) tuner bushings are missing. I’ve ordered them. The neck projects 1/8” below the bridge, and the action is 5/32” both E’s. It’s marked 4973H162 & F-66. I forgot the most important thing that I noticed, BEFORE I even opened the case!! It smells like an elderly woman’s perfume!! I have an aunt that had the same smell, similar to cloves. It’s not a pleasant smell, but it could be worse. I need to open the case in the garage and air it out.
Cool binding!!
Random extra grooves.
More random extra grooves.
The action is a little high!
