I can't work out what is the big difference between the FGs of the mid to late 70's and L-5,6,and 8 models from around the same period. The L series seems to be more fancy and has nicer inlays on the fretboard. Both also have the truss rod adjustment on the headstock, but does anyone have more details on these guitars? Thanks!

Of the lower L series, only the L5A was sold in the US, the rest may have only been available in Japan. The L6 & 8 have solid back & sides. The L5, 6 & 8 also get a scale increase from 25.0" to 25.6". The L6 & 8 have ebony fingerboard & bridge. WHY?? Because it's Yamaha!! They made SO MANY models!!
