Hi Everybody.. just wanted to say hello and how happy I am to find this forum where we can share our interest in vintage Yamaha FG guitars.
My mother got me started playing on her old archtop when I was very young, with C, G7, and F chords, but the action was so high I never really progressed. After looking at what was available in the Sears catalog, I decided I would make my first trip to a real music store to see about getting a "real" guitar.
I can't remember what other brands I compared the Yamaha with, but I ended up getting an FG-110 that day, and as fate would have it, it was a red label Nippon Gakki model... had no idea of the significance of that label way back then.
Anyway, I still have that first guitar, it sounds better the older it gets, and i am happy it will live on with my daughter when I am gone, since she has also developed a love for playing guitar.
The FG-110 is my favorite FG. It's so light I bought a digital luggage scale to weigh it. 3.50 lbs!! That light weight must be why it resonates so nicely.
