Other than the Taiwan Red Label (non-Nippon Gakki) is there any difference in the actual make and quality of the guitar?
There's no way to know for sure, 50 years later. From what I've heard, it's possible every guitar is a little different than another of the same model. I've had (3) FG-140's, and (3) FG-180's to compare. Minor audible variations that you'd never know if you didn't have multiples of the same model for comparison. I think the same goes for Japan and Taiwan made of the same model. They are probably built to the same specs, but there will always be very small variations, probably not even worth worrying about. I've also recorded differences in weights of the same models. The environment they aged in could be part of the difference., both for weight and sound.
thanks for your comments! I have a Nippon Gakki FG 150 as does my son. Mine sounds much richer than his. So who know what can change over 50 years.
Is there a big difference between the 2? Action, height of the strings above the top, neck angle, saddle height?? Different strings? Old strings? Although I've heard an FG-110 that had strings that must have been 20-30 years old (rusted) and almost no saddle exposed and it sounded amazing!
