HIS STORY: He bought it from a friend in 1981 who bought it new while he was in the Navy in Japan. It became his main guitar, used to lead worship for 15 years before getting an Ovation in the late 90’s. It survived several moves, 3 kids and 32 years of marriage.
This is the most expensive model FG made between 1977 and 1981, listing for $375. It has a solid spruce top, rosewood back & sides, mahogany neck, and Indian rosewood fretboard & bridge. It has 9 ply binding, vs. the normal 5 ply, with the 6 inner ply’s looking to be wood.
OBSERVATIONS: He first contacted me thru Facebook on 7/4/21. Then contacted me on Facebook on 6/29/22 (1 year later) about meeting to do the neck reset. We met in the commuter parking lot at exit 66 off of route 15. He was passing thru on business. He kept the truss rod cover and screws. The end pin had been replaced with a jack, and the jack is missing. Dings all over, mostly on the top, buckle rash on the back. Frets look good except for a divot at the first fret B string. DEEP divots in the fretboard at the first 3 frets. Pick wear around the sound hole. TUSC nut, compensated saddle. All the bridge pins are chewed up except the high E. Drilled holes in the body to the left & right of the heel. A lot of the finish worn off the tuners. Tuned to "E", the neck relief is a little high low E & a little low high E. The nut action is low for all strings. The action is 1/8" both E's. The neck projects about 1/8" below the top of the bridge. The bridge is .27" thick, the saddle sticks out .10" both E's. It looks like he had started loosening the fretboard and scoring around the heel corners.
