The Story: I’ve been looking for one of these for a few months. It’s a 3 string kids guitar. But it’s the "Minions" guitar to me.
2.5 months ago, one showed up on Shopgoodwill, but it had drop damage. It sold for $38 plus shipping!! They did supply a very good top view that I was able to print and scale to make a 3D model of the body, thinking maybe I would make my own LARGER acoustic or electric version.
Then I saw this one. The price stayed low. I threw a “large” number at it to be sure I won, and I did, for only $29!! It was a long week waiting for it to be shipped.
It was packed well. The body has a few small dings here and there, not bad. 16 frets to the body. It's missing the strap buttons (and doesn’t look like they were ever installed), has sticker remnants on the back of the neck, and needs a neck reset. BONE nut & saddle! While it was in transit, I ordered D'Addario Pro Arte EJ45 Classical strings, as suggested on a page by a retail seller.
The nut action is very high, at least .03". The neck relief is about .02". The action is 13/64" G & 7/32" E. The neck projects 11/32" below the top of the bridge. The bridge is located by pins and can't be moved. The saddle (.095” thick) only sticks out of the bridge 1/16", it can't be lowered. The action will have to be fixed with the nut & neck angle. Looking at the label, this is from "Batch #1", I assume from the Kickstarter in 2011.
/description The bridge is thin and sits on the top, all the pics I'm finding show a thicker bridge that is screwed to the top. This bridge version looks much better.
I was hoping the neck was a little wider. The nut width is 1.03” x .125” thick and is glued to the neck. Maybe convert to 4 string?? NO, the spacing between string centers is .32”. They would have to be .26” apart to fit the 4th string. Too close for nylon strings.
7-26-22 - I sent LOOG a message: "I bought a Batch #1 LOOG II. Is it possible to put one of the new 6 string necks on it? Are the scale lengths the same??"
Reply: “Thank you for getting in touch with us. Let me help.
Since this guitar is no longer available in our store, we no longer have the details of the item anymore. So sorry about that. You can try to consult a local music store to see if they will be able to assist you with this.
Please let me know if you need anything else.”
Well, that was useless.
My reply: “A local music store isn't going to have access to your parts. One of the original selling points of the LOOG was you could "upgrade" later, replacing the 3 string neck with the 6 string neck.
Do you have/sell separate 6 string necks??
What is the scale length of the current 6 string models??
Can you supply any pictures or dimensions of the 6 string neck??
I fix acoustic guitars as a hobby. Including neck resets/refrets/etc. I will have to fix the neck angle on the LOOG II I bought. I'm just curious to find out if I can do a neck swap, even if I have to mod the 6 string neck to make it fit. BUT, the scale lengths must be the same.”
I doubt I will get a useful reply, or any reply at all.
I DID get a reply! “I can provide you the length of the whole guitar but I'm afraid I do not have measurement for the neck alone. Also, I apologize but we do not sell necks as a spare part.
Loog Pro VI Acoustic: 33.4" (849.0mm)
Loog Pro VI Electric: 33.9" (860.0mm)
I also included the link to the product page for you to be able to see the other dimensions of the guitar (if it can help).”
My reply: “Thanks. Actually, that was helpful. The scale length (nut to saddle) for the LOOG II is 20.5". The Pro VI is 22.8". That neck will not work, it is too long, or the bridge would have to be moved 2.3" back, which can't happen. Oh well, it was worth a shot!”
The action is a LITTLE high!
Sticker remnants.
It's GONE, with a little denatured alcohol.
