My FG-300 was a gift to me from a good friend. It was the summer of 1981 in North Carolina and I had just graduated from high school. My good friend Bobby had joined the Air Force and was to depart for basic training in Texas at the end of summer.
He came by my house unexpectedly and had his guitar with him and informed me that he wanted me to have it. He said "I know you'll take good care of it and use it as well". I had been playing music for a good while and although I was educated as a drummer starting in school band and while percussion was my primary instrument, I dabbled with the guitar and keyboard. I assumed that he was merely leaving the guitar with me for safe keeping until he would return some day. I remember him and another class mate who also had an fg-300 playing a song for an assembly when we were all in early middle school probably would have been 1976. I thought it was such a cool looking guitar and I still do today.
So as years passed and we lost touch I always did my best to take care of the guitar. I knew that he had moved back to our hometown area and had brief contact with him on the phone once or twice around the late 90's and I told him I still had the guitar and I could being it to him. He said, "well you hang on to it..."
Fast forward to 2015.....The band I was playing with (Drums still) was playing a festival in our hometown and after our set, he was back stage and we had a great reunion. I told him that I wanted him to have his FG-300 back and he said, " It was a gift to you and Thats where it should stay". What a great day and what a way to end a gig. An outstanding friend and human.
So that is the story of my FG-300. It has gotten sweeter sounding after all these years and not because my playing has gotten that much better, lol.
Here are some pics of the guitar. Could not figure out how to get the embedded code to work so here is a link to the photos on my Flickr page.

I wanted to mention that I found this site while looking for a replacement pickguard as the original slid gracefully off one day and shattered into many pieces. Thankfully, I found Backwoods Guitar the pickguard and bridge pins and strings of course are the only non original parts.
