FG 230 early pick guard template?

No problem!  The bare wood is the reason they fell off in the first place.  What were they thinking?  Oh well, nobody's perfect.

I can't decide if I like the fake tort PG on my FS5 or change it to black.

Probably.  Looking at some pictures I have, I'm seeing both for FG-110's & FG-150's.  I assume they made the change in the early 70's, probably for the Tan labels.

The template worked great for shaping the PG. I had to trim down the pointy part where it meets the fret board because of the wider 12 string neck, but the rest of the general shape appears to be spot on to the 180. I went slightly larger on the line near the bridge to cover some of the more obvious dings in the finish. Overall, I'm quite happy with the results, but I'm not sure I like the finish on the pick guard material I chose. It's a bit shiny and cheap looking. I was looking for something around 1mm in thickness, but I may want something thicker. I may also try to take some of the sheen on with steel wool to see if it's more attractive looking. If I have to do it again, so be it.

Any tips on a source for pick guard material that's a good match to the original? Any idea what the thickness is of the original PG?

I'm using the thin stuff too.  The other option seems to be very thick material.  The big disadvantage of the thin stuff is irregularities from the wood below can show thru.
