I recently completed my first acoustic guitar neck reset. CTGULL suggested others might be interested in some of the images I took along the way. I'll begin w/ a short history. I started doing minor guitar setup & repair a few years ago, as a hobby in retirement. Since then I have made my own custom bone nuts & saddles have repaired/restored a number of damaged guitars, mostly cracks and/or various finish flaws, warped necks etc. Until now I had never done anything as complex as a neck reset. As a disclaimer up front, I don't claim to be a luthier by any means, I am just a hobbyist who likes to tinker w/ acoustic guitars. The neck reset was a big jump up in time & complexity for me. I don't know how many man hours it took, a reasonable estimate probably starts w/ 40 (at a bare minimum). A few months ago I had purchased (inexpensively) an FG-75 at an online auction & tried to fix a backbow it exhibited in the neck (using a bar clamp). I have had success doing this previously on other guitars but something happened this time & I ended up using too much clamping force & caused some hairline cracks in the neck to appear. I had to re-enter the auction market & purchase a 2nd FG-75, which I did. This one also required a neck reset to be playable, so I purchased a few needed tools & proceeded w/ the process, using CTGULL's documented procedure for vintage Yamaha neck resets, Brian Kimsey's site & various other websites & YouTube tutorials too numerous to mention. It was a lot of work but worth it as in the end as I ended up w/ a very nice old guitar that should remain playable now for many years & I gained tons of knowledge in the process.
