Like many guitars I’ve bought, this one has a story. I bought it 6 months ago, but I first found it a year ago on Reverb. It’s a rare model, with a few others that are similar, they were probably only made for 1 month in November 1976. yamahavintagefg.boards.net/thread/245/rare-black-white-vintage-yamaha I’ve only found (2) of these so far. I’ve found a few ads on Reverb and other places, but I’ve confirmed by either the markings or serial numbers they’re the same guitar. Except for (1) found in Japan. When I originally found this a year ago I asked the vendor to share the serial numbers for my list. His only response was “NO”. I asked why and he refused to respond. Why?? What does he have to lose?? I told him I was considering buying it but he wouldn’t reply. So I didn’t buy it, although I regretted it a week or 2 later but it had sold. 7 months later I found this model mentioned on Facebook, a post from 2 months before, with a few pictures and the serial numbers. I compared the pictures to the one I passed up and confirmed they were the same guitar. I sent him a Facebook message and he replied a week later he didn’t own it, he saw it on Reverb and had considering buying it. In the week between I found it on Reverb, already sold. AND, I found it listed by another vendor!! The same guitar, by the serial number and markings!! BUT, at the same time, someone asked me about this model, he was considering buying it. He sent an eBay link. But, I had already found this model on Reverb, again, for the 3rd time in 7 months. It has to be fate!! I bought it!! I didn’t notice the eBay listing was from THE SAME vendor until after I bought it! It was the same guitar! The guy had been thinking about buying it for 5 days but hadn’t pulled the trigger. I felt bad once I realized I bought it out from under him. And he was a bit upset. I explained that I had been tracking this guitar for months. What I never mentioned is I didn’t know the guitar was listed by the vendor in both places. After buying it I continued researching it. I found it was originally sold by Goodwill Industries of San Francisco on 8/24/18, AND it had been listed for 490 days! It was listed in April 2017!! I also found a Yahoo posting from 2009 asking about this model, saying it was barely played, asking what was it was worth. I think that’s where this guitar started. It probably came out of someone’s closet where it had been sitting for over 40 years, like many of the vintage Yamaha’s I’ve found. But, I wanted to put it out there, I’m not collecting data to steal guitars out from under people. That was just an unfortunate coincidence. I’ve sworn off buying guitars this year (over 5 months so far!), only fixing what I have. Unless I can find a FG-230 neck for real cheap to build the YamaXLjr. I haven’t bought a guitar since this one, nearly 6 months ago. I’m concentrating on fixing them, doing 8 neck resets so far this year, 3 for customers, with 2 in process. And many more to go.
