The Story – Like last year, I’m planning on buying less guitars and selling more. Like last year, I blew it immediately!! This one has the old Block Letter HARMONY logo. For the H1260, it was used between 1958 (first year of the H1260) and 1961. There’s no internal date code, so it was made during that 4 year period.
I bought it 1/2/23, it was shipped 1/3/23, and I received it received 1/5/23, WAY earlier than I expected, I was working on a customer guitar and expected it next week. Packed in a smallish guitar box, in a very thin Fender guitar bag. The damage to the back isn’t as bad as I thought. How often does that happen?? Nylon strings, the low E core is broken. Lots of finish crazing. The pickguard is missing. I bought some thin red tortoise pickguard material, on Amazon, to make a new one. No fret wear, it must have had nylon strings on it, and not played much, it's whole life. On top of first back brace: INSP BY 506 JB. No date code. Tuned to something less than optimal (the tuners are tight!), the action is about 7/64" low G & 1/8" high E. Maybe .002" neck relief. The saddle is .070” thick and sticks out .055”/.075”.
It's been played, but not a lot. Considering it's more than 60 years old.
I have no idea what did that!!
Typical, the pickguard fell off. I plan on making one.
The old "block" logo. And a very dirty headstock.
NO fret wear!!
The small punched in area.
The tuners are a little rusty, and A LOT tight!!
Only 1 major ding on the back of the neck.
The heel.
And a major onslaught of pictures of the body!! Finish crazing all over.
The action is a little high. But that's with slacked nylon strings.
The cool H1260 bridge!!
Not much saddle, as usual.
I couldn't get a good picture of the dust bunny suspended by cobwebs.
The bracing.
The back damage.
The only markings on the inside.
The early short length bridge plate. Later it spanned the whole width of the guitar.
After removing the strings.
No fret wear, no divots in the fretboard. Only decades of finger grunge.
