Hello everyone, soon to be a new owner of this guitar and, reading through descriptions of it, I would like to know it's true dimensions (either inches or centimetres ) for a case I am looking at. I've seen it described as both a Jumbo and Dreadnought ... Many thanks John
The FG-580 is fairly rare, since it wasn't initially exported from Japan. It was made 1971 to 1978, a fairly long time by Yamaha standards.
While I've worked on many vintage FG models, I've never seen a FG-500. The closest is a FG-500.
I assume it's the same dimensions as the FG-180, of which I've seen many. They have a 16.25" lower bout, 10.63" upper bout, and 4.50" body thickness at the end block. The body length is 19.75", and the overall length 40".

I purchased new an FG580 SN 30221140, Feb 21,1973. (Gold label) while in the US Air Force over seas. It's a basic dreadnaught body, 20 fret neck. So, it's a standard dreadnaught size guitar. I still have this guitar. It's aged wonderful and has the incredible richness that only a vintage, aged acoustic guitar can produce
